"Dark Emu" by Bruce Pascoe challenges the label of 'hunter-gatherer' for pre-colonial Aboriginal Australians, countering colonial myths used to rationalize dispossession. 
 
Using evidence from early explorers' diaries, Pascoe suggests that traditional Aboriginal agriculture and land management practices have been significantly downplayed in contemporary accounts, prompting a reevaluation of Australia's history.
